I've set it this as a still life prop for one of my paintings classes that I teach, since I knew the flower's not gonna last long I thought I should take advantage of that and do some painting before it withers.A basic color palette was used, yellow, red and blue + white, it gives plenty of color options plus a better cohesion between the colors then a regular full color palette, it was great that I was able to preserve at least the image of the flower since the next morning it was totally gone.

I used an old painting primed with a layer of oil paint in this one, I was experimenting with that set background and trying to make use of it, I found out that you can come up with interesting results but didn't like painting over the glassy surface of dried oil and the edges were harder to control so I had to overpaint certain parts since I wasn't getting the needed control that I'm used to, but I think that changing your approach to paint always yields some new insights.

The delicate transparence of the jar with its tiny luminous details and search for dimension within the canvas were my goal in this painting also I haven't seen flour in a painting before so I decided to do it, painted in alla prima style in daylight.

When combining objects like this for a still life I go for a certain aroma that's achieved with the colors and the lighting used, in this case it's an oriental feeling that I was going for and the symbiosis created by the interaction of these objects.

This was a tricky job for me, I've set up the object outside which is not a common thing to do with subjects like this, the day was really shaky and moody changing from sunny to dark, so the lighting and all the shadows on the paper were in a constant change, I tried to capture a single moment of that transience on the canvas.
