Limited Edition Prints by Daniel Peci
"Green room"
I started doing prints of some of my paintings, going through the selection process of images right now, they will be edition of 20, signed and numbered.
For now I'll be printing them at a standard size of 8.5x11 inches, I might decide to go larger in near future, the quality and color is very true to the originals,

Full profile here, I visualized this painting in my head first and where do I want the face to be exactly and decided further right, makes it more interesting instead of the usual middle of the canvas placement, it also points where she's looking in a more direct way.

"Red cover" 6x8 Female nude and article in Professional Artist magazine
Here's a new nude from last night, it has a nice color play throughout the painting, when figuring out the composition I try to focus on the things that 'matter' and leave the other objects within the interior of secondary importance.

I really like these Robert Simmons Signet brushes that I just started using, they're great for applying heavier strokes of paint and they're also very flexible, for the middle values and transitions I usually use a mongoose brush, so I balance between the two, mostly flats though...

Portrait commission

This is a portrait commission that I did recently, I had to work from a photograph that has more then one light source on the subject which is not so great to work from, but sometimes you have to make a compromise and learn something from it along the way.When doing portraits like this the likeness is imperative since the person that commissioned the portrait wants it to look like the actual person not like his neighbour or something.
Here are some shots that I took while working on it...
I start straight into painting, without any preliminary drawing, not for everyone unless you are sure of your drawing skills.I block in the big mass first and start from the left eye, this way I have a reference point that I can judge the rest of the shapes accordingly.
From the left to the right eye, the alignment of the eyes is the key here.
His hair is white as it can be so I have to put that white color there so I can judge the rest of my values against my whitest whites.
I add the desired background that I think its gonna work plus I can get some edgework done even at this stage covering most of the upper portion of the face...
These are just a few key frames from the painting process, maybe I'll do a video soon that will be more explanatory.

This portrait has a sort of religious quality, maybe its the posture of the figure or the little girl's face looking down that adds to the spiritual theme of the portrait, still I think maybe its just the purity of a child that emanates that religious/spiritual feel that I find very intriguing and challenging in my attempt to translate that on the canvas.

This still life composition was all about color and I was trying to capture all the color variables that drew my attention in the first place, from the warmer tones to the cooler violets, I really like how all these colors relate to each other and connect the whole piece together.

This still life setup had a certain softness that I wanted to translate on the canvas and it a was a nice combination of greens and the warmer tones of the chinese pot.

I did this painting some time ago but recently I decided to do a few finishing touch ups (actually more then a few) so there's some heavy and expressive brushwork on it now and it merged quite well with the layer underneath to add more character on the old man's face, I usually try to keep the original spontaneity and freshness when doing changes like this.
