If you were following my postings on my other blog A drawing a day, you'll notice that I did a preliminary drawing for this painting, now that doesn't mean that I follow the outlines of the drawing to create the painting, its just to give me a better idea how to visualize the painting before I start, the whole process then unfolds spontaneously and it can go in any direction.

Full profile here, I visualized this painting in my head first and where do I want the face to be exactly and decided further right, makes it more interesting instead of the usual middle of the canvas placement, it also points where she's looking in a more direct way.

"The Swimmer" (Standing Female back) Modern Art oil painting for sale

This female figure seen from behind was inspired by the 2012 Olympics in London, yes I watched some of it too!
There's a certain texture throughout the painting that suggests water and somehow found its place organically in the painting, originally it was just the initial turpentine wash but I kept its abstract quality all the way to the end since it served its purpose.
