A glimpse into the work process, this is the beginning stage where I established the major values on the face, this way I can judge correctly the rest of the shapes and values, its one way to start a painting and every painting is different and so is the start, but I usually adjust the beginning according to the given subject and circumstances.

If you were following my postings on my other blog A drawing a day, you'll notice that I did a preliminary drawing for this painting, now that doesn't mean that I follow the outlines of the drawing to create the painting, its just to give me a better idea how to visualize the painting before I start, the whole process then unfolds spontaneously and it can go in any direction.

The angle was the key here which placed the figure towards the right, it anticipates movement and shows the sensibility of the female form more, sometimes certain poses give more hints about emotions or thoughts then others, you can never intellectualize all of this in the beginning since most of the problematics are resolved during the creative process, you can only try to visualize the result.

The composition for this piece with a Girl in a chair reading came naturally to me and it's all about color and natural light which is so much richer outside then indoors and the light is in constant shifting movement falling and reflecting on different objects.

I've added a new image of this piece since I wasn't satisfied with the outcome of the initial shot that I took, it just tells me how the artwork may appear differently depending on the quality of the image, I'm much more satisfied with the second take.

This piece is from my Portrait painting series, the girl is looking down, a very contemplative pose with an almost profound quality, one of my favourite so far.
