Ok...so doing a self portrait with soft pastels is not that easy, especially when the size is small and you are trying to do some details with the edge of the pastels, whats even worse the pastel itself crumbles in your hand and dissapears in small pieces of dust, so this is the result of my struggle with this medium and yes I was looking at myself in a mirror, I hate photos (especially Vacation photos).

This is the latest female nude fresh off the easel (the french one)it was done in pastel with some accents in charcoal to strenghten the lines and structure of the drawing (I use this combination quite often). This is a portrait of a girl that I did recently, larger then my usuall small pieces, the girl that was posing for the painting was lit from one side and I was trying to capture a certain yearning in her eyes with the head slightly tilted upwards and looking at the direction of the light.

I like combining the soft pastels and the sharper and exact lines that I get with the charcoal I think they compliment each other, since Pastel as a medium adds volume and the other adds firmness to the drawing.
