"Reverie" original figurative art female nude painting a day

Sold
6" x 8" Oil on canvas panel
The idea behind this piece was to materialize the connection between the female and nature and see it in a more apparent form where the personal identity is dissolved in the vastness of the collective unconscious.

Portrait commission, oil on canvas

11"x14" Oil on canvas
Private collection in London, UK.
The reference that was used for this portrait was a low-res black and white photograph, not a great source for a painting but sometimes that's all you have and when there's a distance involved the opportunity to have the person pose for you is very limited, regardless of that I think it was a good outcome and the essence of the person was captured well.

"Roses" Original Art still life oil Gallery painting on canvas panel - Available

8" x 10" Oil on canvas on panel
This is the first time I'm painting roses, I find it a particularly challenging task because there are many subtle tonal and color changes within the flower which you have to notice that will determine if the painting's gonna be successful.

"The secret" 5x7 Art female figure oil painting a day on panel

5" x 7" Oil on canvas on panel

I wanted to convey a sense of suspense in this one with the girl holding the crumpled letter in her hands like she's trying to hide or forget something without anyone noticing it.

Portrait commission

9"x12" Oil on canvas
Private collection, London, UK.

This is a portrait commission that I did recently, I had to work from a photograph that has more then one light source on the subject which is not so great to work from, but sometimes you have to make a compromise and learn something from it along the way. When doing portraits like this the likeness is imperative since the person that commissioned the portrait wants it to look like the actual person not like his neighbour or something.

Here are some shots that I took while working on it...

I start straight into painting, without any preliminary drawing, not for everyone unless you are sure of your drawing skills.I block in the big mass first and start from the left eye, this way I have a reference point that I can judge the rest of the shapes accordingly.

From the left to the right eye, the alignment of the eyes is the key here.

His hair is white as it can be so I have to put that white color there so I can judge the rest of my values against my whitest whites.

I add the desired background that I think its gonna work plus I can get some edgework done even at this stage covering most of the upper portion of the face...
These are just a few key frames from the painting process, maybe I'll do a video soon that will be more explanatory.

Small treasure - Oil on panel painting with a female figure

Sold
6" x 8" Oil on canvas panel
I was thinking how much are women dependent on their bags and purses where they carry all of their "small treasures" inside, on the other hand I guess it's a good thing if you have almost everything you need in just one bag.

Carmine dress - Art painting with a female figure by Gallery Artist

Sold
5" x 7" Oil on gessoed panel
The oil paint that I used for the dress was all alizarin crimson, but I think the title resonates better when you say Carmine...

The hidden trail - Plein Air Impressionist landscape paintings by California artist

5" x 7" Oil on gessoed panel
It's one of those places where there's a naturally formed trail by the mountain that's not so obvious to first glance, it took my attention and I was painting frantically before the day ceases and takes away all the light from my painting.

The trumpet player - Figurative gallery art by California artist

Sold
5" x 7" Oil on gessoed panel
This little trumpet player brought music to my painting, it's funny how both music and painting co relate with each other with the notes and tonal values and also setting up the composition.

Two of a kind - still life gallery daily painting by the artist

Dark feather - original Daily still life Oil painting with an ink bottle

5" x 7" Oil on canvas panel
The lightness of the feather and the grounded ink bottle suggest 2 polarities, like the sky and the earth, at the same time both the feather and bottle are dark, just to make things more confusing:)
