Man is unbound, yet the limitations imposed on him are growing bigger, social conditioning and strict rules of movement in a world where the man stopped following the given guidelines and got lost on the way, he ignored the signs and got cast away from the tribe.

I did this small study on the hot sidewalks of West La, you would think that there won't be much activity on Sunday but you'd be wrong, occasionally dog walkers were blocking my view cause there's plenty of them but I was able to pull off a quick study before the day ended.

Traffic cityscape oil painting

My main goal in this painting was movement and light, I think the flow of traffic is a good subject for this particular idea since its constantly moving, the gas from the cars creates hazines around them and I always get the same question in my head when I observe this kind of a scene, ...where are we going?

Painting Urban Landscapes is a specific experience, not like painting usual landscape since you can feel the air and aroma of the city, I was painting this one on location in L.A. alley trying to follow the constantly moving shadows from the houses and small buildings, their shape and lenght is changing according to the sun's movement making my job much harder, this scene is a close up of an alley that connects one of the streets in L.A.

I'm always looking for places that inspire me, certain buildings, alleys or houses and this one caught my atention with the stairs and the way it was designed, fully lit by the sun and the strict shadows forming rhytm patterns.

I had this idea of starting a new series of paintings, cityscapes mainly, since I'm surrounded by buildings this is my actual LandScape, alleyways are always more interesting to me for some reason then the main street since there's no traffic almost so it gives the exterior a more personal touch.
